Marc Newson is one of the most influential designers of this generation. He studied sculpture and goldsmith’s craft at Sidney College of the Arts. As a student, he had already begun experimenting on furniture and, in 1986, prepared an exhibit at Sydney's Roslyn Oxley Gallery where he presented the Lockheed Lounge chair.

In 1987, he moved to Tokyo where he worked until 1991 in collaboration with Idee of Truo Kurosaki who put into production many of his projects. In 1991, he opened a studio in Paris and formulated the Ikepod Watch Company joint venture to produce watches and a limited series of aluminum furniture. During the 90s, Newson also designed a recording studio, restaurants and interiors for clients in North America, Europe and Asia. In 1997, he moved to London where, with Benjamin De Haan, he founded the Marc Newson Ltd. Studio.

Presently, Newson dedicates himself to designing interiors and exteriors for a new airline, a camera for a Japanese corporation, and the development of new residences. He has lent his name to projects for Flos, Cappellini, Alessi, Magis, Ikepod, and B&B.
