Bruno Munari was born in Milan where he both lived and worked.
At 22 he took part in a group exhibition of second generation futurists along with Depero, Fillia, Prampolini. In 1933 he began showing his first “macchine inutili”. In 1948 he founded the MAC (Movimento per l’Arte Concreta) together with Dorfles, Monnet and Attanasio Soldati.

The same year worked on the project “concavo-convesse”. In 1951 he showed the first of the paintings “positivo-negativo”. In 1953/1954 light projections (MoMA, New York). He was the founder with M. Piccardo of the Cineteca dei film di ricera at Monte Olimpino (Como). He is the creator of books for children, games, unreadable books and fountains.
From 1970 he taught at the Scuola Politecnica di Design in Milan. In 1977 he designed the children’s workshop at Brera and developed a method of “play with art”. He received the “Compasso d’Oro” in the years 1954, 1955, 1981 and the Osaka International Design Award in 1985.
