Ross Lovegrove graduated from Manchester Polytechnic and went on to receive an honours diploma in Industrial Design at the Manchester Polytechnic in 1980. In 1993 he obtained a Masters in Design at the Royal College of Art in London.

He began his professional career working in studios of industrial design in London and Stuttgart before moving to Paris in 1984 at the invitation on Knoll International, to design the office system Alessandri and other projects. In Paris he was a member of the Atelier di Nîmes along with Philippe Starck and Jean Nouvel. After returning to London at the end of 1987, he designed furniture and products for a number of companies. He has won international prizes and his work is the subject of many publications and exhibitions around the world.

Amongst his current projects is the study of the interior for the new Airbus A3XX, the largest commercial aeroplane ever built, expected to be completed in 2005 and the interior of the first class accommodation for Japan Airlines (2003).
